What are 49 Ways to Love God and Others?

We are reminded in the 12 Gospel readings on Holy Thursday that Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment: “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:34,35)

As we go through Holy Week preparing for Pascha, let us consider how we have obeyed the commands of Christ as found in the scriptures. Below is a list of the commands of Christ, where the command is found in the Bible, and the character quality we need to follow the command.

2. Follow Me-Matthew 4:19 Meekness

3. Rejoice-Matthew 5:12 Joyfulness

4. Let Your Light Shine-Matthew 5:16 Generosity

5. Honor God’s Law-Matthew 5:17-18 Love

7. Do Not Commit Adultery-Matthew 5:29-30 Self-Control

8. Keep Your Word-Matthew 5:37 Truthfulness

9. Go the Second Mile-Matthew 5:38-42 Deference
